]]>It took me more than 10 videos to get this video and it is dark, the toast fall from the plate, I am super serious, well...I hope the intension is important to you ;) . Also I ate half a baguete because I don't like to throught food away so I ate what I cooked. If I do more videos I will have to start going to the gym or be really good in the first shot.

Ingredients:
- 1 Ripe tomatoe.
- 3 Teaspoons of fresh extra virgin olive oil.
- Pinch of salt.
- 1 Clove of garlic (optional).
Steps:
1.- Cut the tomatoe in half, do not peel it. Use this tool to take the pulp out. You can use a blender but the blander leave the sauce more liquid and that is not the best but it is the easier, up to you.
2.- Add salt.
3.- Add the Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Remember as fresh as tasty. Look for the harvest date, best before doesn't say much to me.
4.- Move all.
5.- Toast your bread.
6.- Cut a clove of garlic in half and apply over one half of your toasted bread. if you don't like garlic don't use it. It is optional. Put the amount you like, don't use to much is you have a meeting ;)
7.- Put the sauce on the bread alredy flavoured with garlic.
8.- DONE.
You can keep it in the fridge for one week. The olive oil will preserve the ingredients because of its antioxidatns properties.
9.- We recomend you this variations, you just need to add them on top:
- Most popular in Spain: Jamon Serrano, Jamon Iberico o Jamon de Bellota, the best option but hard to find in a grocery store in Canada. You can use instead prosciutto.
- Tuna.
- Cooked ham. Is the one we show in the video.

]]>This 2018 American drama film written and directed by Dan Fogelman stars Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde and the andalusian Antonio Banderas...(Netflix)
I totally recommend it. What a nice surprise!! The movie submerges you into an andalusian family who owns a "cortijo" (country house) surrounded by an olive grove in Seville countryside. I know it is Seville because of the teenager's accent, the words "mi arma" (hey body), the streets with terraces and "farolillos" (lights).
It totally reminded me how I grew up. My story is like this little boy whose parents were taking care of the land and house without owning it, and managing the harvest season of their olive trees, and in my case, our own olive trees as well. It was interesting seeing how they hand-harvest and one of the characters imported olive oil from Spain to Italy for personal consumption. It is like me, the smell and the taste of Picual and Royal bring me to my andalusian home.

Researchers found the adverse health effects of a poor diet can not be offset by taking nutritional supplements.
Sufficient intake of certain nutrients from food is linked to a lower risk of cancer and all-cause mortality, according to a new study.
Conversely, nutrients from supplements are not associated with a reduced risk of death: in fact, some supplements actually may increase the likelihood of mortality.
As potential benefits and harms of supplement use continue to be studied, some studies have found associations between excess nutrient intake and adverse outcomes, including increased risk of certain cancers.
The problematic supplements were calcium and vitamin D. Doses of calcium that exceeded 1,000 milligrams per day were tied to a high risk of death from cancer. Vitamin D supplements taken by people who do not have vitamin D deficiency were connected to an elevated likelihood of death from all causes, including cancer.
“As potential benefits and harms of supplement use continue to be studied, some studies have found associations between excess nutrient intake and adverse outcomes, including increased risk of certain cancers,” senior author Fang Fang Zhang, an associate professor at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, said. “It is important to understand the role that the nutrient and its source might play in health outcomes, particularly if the effect might not be beneficial.”
Researchers used data from 27,000 U.S. adults ages 20 and older to explore two relationships. One involved the effect of nutrient intake on risk of death and another dealt with the difference between nutrient consumption from diet and nutrient consumption from supplements on mortality rate.
The study phase that examined the impact of nutrients on death risk revealed three associations:
When nutrients from food were compared to nutrients from supplements, the results showed the first two associations were due to nutrients from food rather than nutrients from supplements.
While no adverse effect of calcium intake from food was noted, excess calcium intake from supplements was linked to an increased risk of death from cancer. In addition, supplements had no effect on the risk of death in people with low nutrient intake from food.
“Our results support the idea that, while supplement use contributes to an increased level of total nutrient intake, there are beneficial associations with nutrients from foods that aren’t seen with supplements,” Zhang said. “This study also confirms the importance of identifying the nutrient source when evaluating mortality outcomes.”
According to the authors, the study had some limitations such as reliance on self-reports, which are subject to recall bias. Results were published in Annals of Internal Medicine.
Taylor Engelke, a registered dietitian and nutritionist and owner of Nutrimental Healthcare told Olive Oil Times about the factors that may account for why supplements were not linked to a lower death rate.
“Much research supports the phenomenon known as the synergistic effect of foods,” she said. “It involves the idea that foods are more than the sum of their parts. Hundreds and thousands of phytonutrients work together for our overall health.”
“No one nutrient is more beneficial than another, just as no single organ in the body is more important than the others because they all work in tandem to keep the body functioning well,” she continued. “Other factors that underlie the benefit involve fiber, as well as the greater bioavailability of nutrients in food compared to nutrients in supplements.”
“Calcium, for example, is much more easily absorbed and used to strengthen our bones when ingested in a glass of milk or cup of spinach rather taking a calcium carbonate tablet,” she added.

]]>Madrid - The member countries of the IOC recently approved a proposal to create a portal that gathers scientific information on the health benefits of olive oil and olive products.
The project, called the Olive Health Information System, or OHIS, is planned to begin in the coming months.
The Executive Secretariat is supported by the Department of Preventative Medicine and Public Health at the University of Navarra, in collaboration with researchers who hold over ten years’ experience. The aim is to create a regularly updated database that gathers the latest scientific research.
The portal is designed with both researches and the general public in mind; it will include technical documents as well as more accessible content written in simple language that can be understood by all.
Experts and scientists from the University will also publish scientific reviews and reports to summarise keyresearch from all over the world, as well as provide infographics to illustrate the findings visually. The results will be included in the Observatory that the IOC is setting up to provide members with more up-to-date information on current issues.
